The Opportunity: The Vermont State Legislature authorized the use of $25 Million to be provided to low-to-moderate* income households for the purpose of weatherizing their homes. $3 Million in funding is allocated towards a Home Repair Program, acknowledging that there are a number of cases in which significant repairs are needed in order for a weatherization project to be installed. Funding will be first-come, first-served until funding expires and runs from 10/1/2024 until 12/31/2026 (unless funding expires sooner).
Our Mission: This funding will enable households, where home repair projects are a blocker, to move ahead with weatherizing their homes. Efficiency Vermont will support a minimum of 150 projects through rebates of up to $15,000 per household, for specific home repairs related to weatherization projects.
Who Will This Project Serve: This program is only available to Vermonters in low-to moderate* income households, defined as any household which is below 120% of Area Median Income if it is single occupancy. If a rental property, at least 50% of the units must be below certain rent-rate thresholds, and the building can only be 1-4 units. Home Repair Projects must correspond to a list of eligible Home Repair Activities; or otherwise, be determined as eligible by Efficiency Vermont staff and must have an accompanying scope for a weatherization project scoped by an EEN Weatherization Contactor or other approved contractor.
What Will it Produce: This program will lead to improved access to weatherization projects and weatherized homes for over 150 Vermonters through home repair measures such as: Drainage, Ground Vapor Barrier, Foundation, Roof Repair, Siding/Sheathing, Window repair/replacement, Remediation, Radon Mitigation, Electrical, Plumbing, Ventilation, Combustion Appliance Safety, Ductwork, Chimney or Flue, General Safety Devices, Mobile Home Repair.
What are the Objectives of This Implementation: The objective of this program is to increase accessibility to weatherization projects for low- and moderate-income Vermonters. This will lead to reduced household energy burden, lower greenhouse gas emissions, and healthier living spaces for Vermonters.
