REBUILDING TOGETHER GREATER BURLINGTON, INC.

Rebuilding Together Greater Burlington, Inc. (RTGB), formerly known as Christmas in April, is one of about 120 affiliates in the United States. Our local affiliate was started in 1996 by the former director of the VBRA, Kevin Dorn, and nearly 30 VBRA members became the organization’s directors. Rebuilding Together Greater Burlington acts as the volunteer arm of the Association and continues to have an all-volunteer board of directors.

Rebuilding Together Greater Burlington is dedicated to improving the quality of life for low income Vermonters by making free repairs to their homes so that they may live in warmth, safety and independence. It’s important to know that statistics show that, within 4 miles of each of our homes, this help is needed.

RTGB works like an old fashioned barn raising – swooping in with our band of volunteers (many Remodelers Council and VBRA members) to complete as much work as we can in a single day.

Criteria for assistance include:

The home owner must own and live in their home for the previous 5 years
The homeowner must meet HUD very low income guidelines
The homeowner cannot have family in the area who could help financially or physically
The homeowner or family must agree to work on project day whenever possible
The house should be in a visible location to help us get the word out about our program
The homeowner must not have plans to sell the home for the next 5 years or must agree to pay RTGB back for the materials used on their home

Anyone who has volunteered on one of our projects will likely feel

A sense of pride in what they’ve accomplished,
A sense of camaraderie with the volunteers and
A sense of gratitude for all they have in their lives
