Remodelers Council members believe strongly in giving back to their communities. Below please find a list of organizations the Remodelers Council sponsors and supports.
Rebuilding Together* Greater Burlington, Inc. is an all-volunteer organization dedicated to improving the quality of life for Vermonters by making free critical repairs to their homes. Since 1996, the mission has been to work in partnership with the community to rehabilitate the homes of Vermonters of limited means so they can live in warmth, safety and independence.
Remodelers Council members not only donate funds to this organization, but they volunteer a day's labor twice a year to help their neighbors maintain their homes.
The Remodelers Council created the Brendon Cousino Trades Scholarship in memory of Brendon Cousino (1984 - 2015), a highly skilled carpenter craftsman, who was passionate about furthering his skill and talents through continued education and training. The scholarship promotes the construction industry and its related fields by encouraging life-long learning. A scholarship is awarded each year at the VBRA Annual Meeting.
A Testimonial from the 2015 Brendon Cousino Trades Scholarship winner:
"I am truly grateful to have been afforded the opportunity to attend the JLC Live Show. I spoke with many vendors in turn presenting my employer with knowledge about quality and cutting edge products we may choose to implement, such as Starborn screws, Advantech foam adhesive, and LP Smart Siding (which I particularly liked). I was also able to attend live demonstrations on deck building, stair stringers, exterior finish crown molding, and columns. I found most helpful the show on how to properly apply joint compound, which is a skill I am currently working to develop. I thank you for investing in me and furthering my knowledge in this industry. It was a wonderful experience."
Each December, Remodelers Council members choose a family that could use some help for the holidays due to illness, injury, or job loss. RC members purchase gifts, food, event tickets etc. and present them to the family. For RC members, this is the true meaning of the holiday!
In 2015, the Remodelers Council began an annual tradition of holding a BBQ for its members and their families as a way to come together outside of the typical monthly meetings. In 2016, the Council partnered with Rebuilding Together* Greater Burlington as a way to broaden their outreach with another local community based group. Both organizations bring another level of professionalism to the industry and area, while giving back to the community. The BBQ offers both groups the opportunity to further a bond between those in the trades and those that could benefit from their expertise and help. More than anything, it is an opportunity to connect, relax, and celebrate the work and time each side puts in each year.
