Wrapping a home in insulation can dramatically reduce heat loss compared to a house that only has insulation in stud cavities. But doing it right is critical: vapor retarders (what and where), material choice, thickness, interior vs. exterior – it all matters. Beginning in January 2018, continuous insulation is a requirement for residential new home projects pursuing Efficiency Vermont certification and incentives. At this training, we cover the do’s and don’t of continuous insulation, what building scientists say about moisture-safe design, and details and strategies we’re seeing in the field.
